QATAR: HOW MOLDOVA FAILED TO QUALIFY

Moldovan football won’t be represented at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament following the failure to qualify from Group F. Moldovan football was represented in the group alongside Scotland, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Israel and Austria.

The Moldovans began their campaign in Group F with a 1-1 draw against the Faroe Islands in a game they could have won after leading for almost eighty minutes. Ion Nicolaescu scored the opener in the ninth minute before Meinhard Olsen levelled matters for the visitors in the 83rd minute.

In their second game, Moldovan football suffered humiliation after they were beaten 8-0 by hosts Denmark with Kasper Dolberg and MikkelDamsgaard getting two goals each. It was the heaviest defeat suffered by Moldova since they began to play international football.

Moldova were not able to bounce back as the heavy defeat at the home of the Danes started a run of nine straight defeats in the qualifying campaign for the World Cup 2022 tournament in Qatar. The heavy defeat at the hands of Denmark was followed by the 4-1 home loss to Israel. Moldova scored the opening goal of the game before they conceded four goals to lose the game convincingly. The likes of EranZahavi, Manor Solomon and MunasDabbur were all on target for the Moldovans.

Moldovan football continue to suffer defeats in the qualifiers. They lost 2-0 at home to Austria before a 1-0 loss to hosts Scotlandcourtesy the strike from Lyndon Dykes to complete the first half of their qualifying campaign in the group.Moldova were then beaten 2-1 at Faroe Islands beforea 4-0 loss at home to group winners Denmark. Israel then got the better of Moldova via a 2-1 scoreline. In their last two games in the group, they were beaten 2-0 at home by Scotland before they finished their qualifiers with a 4-1 defeat to hosts Austria.
Moldovan finished the qualifiers with one point from nine games.
