Lionel Messi reckons that he can better his own efforts

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi reckons that he can better his own efforts at the World Cup 2014 during the Copa America 2015.

The Barcelona star almost single-handedly helped Argentina win the World Cup for the first time in almost 30 years. However, he could not prevent a 1-0 defeat to Germany in the final. Up until that point, Messi had been brilliant without exception. For a player who has won every possible trophy at club level, the lack of a World Cup or Copa America medal is certainly a disappointing aspect.

Argentina came closest to winning the Copa America in 2007, but a young Messi could not prevent a 3-0 loss to Brazil in the final.

Now, though, the 27-year-old is at the peak of his career and in the best form of his life. He may not have the same number of goals as he did a few years ago, but Messi has come up with some magical play in the last 12 months. This was responsible for Barcelona lifting the treble in Luis Enrique’s first season at the club. More is expected to come in the second campaign, but for the moment, Messi is concentrating on his international career. Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina are the favourites for the title.

"It would be awesome to win the Copa America. This is a generation that is willing to win something with the national team. We are in a good momentum, and individually we have great players. "The wound of what happened last year, we will carry it always. But the Copa America is very important for Argentina, and for us. We haven't lifted a trophy for many years. We want the cup more than anybody. At this Copa America, I can get better than the World Cup," said the Barcelona superstar.
